The emergence of European settlement centers in Skikda province between Sent 1838-1870

Abstract

This study is trying to highlight the factors that contributed to the emergence of European settlement centers in Skikda region between the years 1838-1870. Through this article, we tried to clarify the historical upbringing of these centers, starting from the founding of the colonial city (Philipeville) in 1838, and its centers (Valeé, Damremont, Saint Antoine), then the European settlement centers in Wadi Safsaf, Wadi Fandak (Al-Harrouch, Saint Charles, Robertville, Gastonville, Jemmapes), which was founded between 1844 and 1848, and showed the development of settlements in the region and the difficulties he faced during the period of military rule.
