Abstract

Abu al-Fadl ibn al-Nahwi (died 513 AH) is considered one of the most prominent personalities in the Islamic West. He acquired a wide culture in the sciences of transportation, which enabled him to contribute to the scientific life in the cities in which he settled, through practicing education in mosques, and teaching the scholars of jurisprudence and principles, in addition to the science of theology (sufism). Ibn al-Nahawi interacted with the burning incident of the Book of Revival by Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (d. 505 AH), during the era of Ali bin Yusuf bin Tashfin, and issued a fatwa that it was not necessary, similar to the jurists who rejected it, which made him enter into a peaceful conflict with the Almoravid authority that annoyed him, and forced him to Return to the castle.
