Abstract

The colonial authorities were quick to form multidisciplinary military expeditions in an attempt to learn about the nature of the region and its archaeological treasures. Many pioneers emerged who were not necessarily trained or specialised in the field of archaeology, and the results of these expeditions formed the first building blocks of archaeological research in Algeria. In this article,  we look at a postal employee and one of the most prominent figures in the field of prehistory in eastern Algeria at the beginning of the 20th century , Artur Debruge, who distinguished by his methodology and style, which often criticised by many of his contemporaries specialised in prehistory, and we learn about his archaeological researches and discoveries, the sites excavated and the archaeological contents extracted. his role in enriching the of national and foreign museums, as well as trying to shed light on the main criticisms of his scientific career and the reservations he faced
