Abstract

This research addresses the topic of teachers of the free schools in Bouira and their scholarly and activist role. A group of scholars, imams, teachers, and their students were recruited to establish numerous associations, clubs, and free schools. These schools would play a prominent role in spreading knowledge and Arab-Islamic thought, reviving the Arabic language, and growing national and liberation awareness in Algeria in general and the Bouira region in particular. Through our research, we have confirmed the effective role of private schools, particularly the School of Education and the Fadhil al-Wartilani School. We have also found that teachers in private schools played a significant role in education and contributed to the national movement and the liberation revolution, especially since many of them joined the National Liberation Front and Army, some of whom were martyred in the service of their homeland.
