France recognized from the outset that the success of its colonial project and its continued presence in Algeria depended on the material support and assistance for settlers coming from Europe, as well as their protection by the French army. This would only be achievable by transplanting European life with its means and structures into Algeria, in order to create a new social fabric composed of different ethnic groups with varying colors, customs, languages, and religious sects, whose primary loyalty would be to France, The attempt to impose a foreign social entity, subjected to a liberal colonial model, required the destruction of all forms of local social life in Algeria that stood in the way of achieving this goal. The policy of social marginalization practiced by the settler system against Algerian society resulted in a clear disruption of the social fabric between the native and settler communities, thus solidifying the dominance of the conqueror over the conquered
