Abstract

The Carthaginian warship occupied an important place in various historical studies, whether in the ancient or modern and contemporary period, and on this basis this study came aimed at knowing its early origins and history, as it is an essential component of the Carthaginian army, so Carthage has always bet on it to preserve its existence first, and to face dangers Secondly, she was praised by the ancient sources in the battles that the Carthaginians waged throughout their wars against the Greeks and against the Romans during the Punic Wars. and if this diversity has contributed to the revitalization and prosperity of this industry, Then framing and well-organized by the diversity of its crews from commander of armies to navigators, it was also credited with its continuation. In general, it has been shown that the history of the warship has been linked to conditions of peace and war. With the emergence of the Greek competition in Africa, it became necessary to form a maritime empire to face various challenges, and it fought the Phocaean Greek in 535 BC, then in the fifth century it entered into a raging struggle against the Greeks of Sicily after a battle. Himera in 480 BC, and continued to face the harassment of the tyrants of Sicily, until the emergence of the Romans as a naval power in the Mediterranean, where it entered the stage of decline and retreat
