Independent Algeria between the ambition to build a country and a political crisis 1962-1963

Abstract

Through this work, we will attempt to address the general conditions that accompanied the independence of Algeria by shedding the light on the most important political events during the time period from 1962 to 1963, wherein the president Ahmed Ben Bella with the help of the general body of the military staff managed to gain power over the country. These events led to the beginning of a political crisis that deeply affected the political development of the newly independent Algeria. Furthermore, these developments which should have    consolidated the country's power had instead started a full blown conflict that fragmented the national capacities and birthed different political factions.
