The Algerian political elite and the issues of Algerian society Through the deliberations of the Algerian financial delegates 1919-1939

Abstract

In this article, we try to highlight the role of some elements of the Algerian political elite during the period between 1919 to 1939, which managed to reach the elected councils, especially the financial delegates. This electoral college became a platform through which the political elite presented issues that were of interest to Algerian society. Despite the obstacles placed by the interests of the colonial administration in front of the Algerian political elite in the elected bodies, as well as the domination of settlers, this Algerian elite condemned the colonial real estate policy, taxes imposed on the Algerian people, and the unjust forest law. Education was also one of the issues raised by this political elite, especially the teaching of the Arabic language to Algerian families.
