A new approach to studying the Tazina engravings in the Saharan Atlas using the application of GIS

Abstract

In our article, we study the Tazina style rock engravings in the Saharian Atlas region and its technical and artistic attributes based on the differential criteria, in order to review and re-examine it using modern research methods. We propose an effective, practical definition of this style and we present some typical stations of tazinian engravings and the results obtained by the field prospecting of the rocky sites. This study is devoted to the digital inventory of prehistoric stations using GIS and a database, which includes the spatial dimension and which will be used for the analytical and statistical study. It will highlight other distinctive characteristics that we will add to the known criteria to complete Tazina's style definition.
