The effect of a treatment program on improving knee functions and quality of life in women with osteoporosis

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of an eight‑week therapeutic exercise program on knee joint function and quality of life among women diagnosed with grade I or II knee osteoporosis. A quasi‑experimental one‑group pre‑/post‑test design was employed on a purposive sample of 30–40 women aged 45–65 years. The therapeutic program consisted of flexibility exercises, muscle‑strengthening routines, balance training, and functional activities, performed three times per week for eight weeks. Pain intensity (VAS), range of motion (ROM), muscle strength, functional ability (6MWT), and quality of life (SF‑36/WHOQOL) were ussed before and after the intervention. The results revealed statistically significant improvements across all measured variables. Pain levels decreased markedly, ROM increased, muscle strength improved, and functional ability showed clear enhancement. Additionally, quality of life improved significantly across its physical, psychological, and social dimensions. These findings confirm the effectiveness of the therapeutic exercise program as a safe and beneficial non‑pharmacological intervention for women with knee osteoporosis. The study recommends adopting similar therapeutic programs in physical therapy centers and encouraging women to engage regularly in structured therapeutic exercise
